Euclid Techlabs LLC is developing a novel MeV range electron source with two critical features needed for any space limited applications: an Ultra-nano Crystal Diamond (UNCD) Field Emission (FE) cathode for high quality 10mA (in pulse) current and a dielectric based accelerator (DLA). Because of the use of high permittivity dielectrics the transverse size of the cavity is reduced significantly, comparable to the thickness of a pencil. This compactness also provides significantly reduced weight of the entire system. A comparison of conventional and dielectric X-band systems is found here.
The unique cost and size effective compact accelerators is expected to be useful for a wide range of applications, including radiotherapy for cancer treatment, materials characterization, radiation-driven chemistry, and national security applications through the detection of explosives, narcotics and other dangerous substances.
